About Us

How We Make Money

The Short Version

Home Equity Insider is free to use. We may earn money when you click a link to a provider on our site, or when you apply with or receive funding from that provider. That's how we keep the calculators, comparisons, and guides free.

How We Get Paid

Some links on this site, such as "Check Your Offer," "Get Started," and "Get Quote" buttons, may be affiliate or referral links. If a company we link to has a partnership with us, it may pay us a fee when you click through, apply, or close. You never pay us anything, and using our links doesn't change the price or terms a provider offers you.

When you click a link to a provider, we add a short tag to the link that tells the provider the visit came from Home Equity Insider and which page you came from. It doesn't contain your name, contact details, or anything you entered in our calculators.

What Compensation Does Not Affect

Reverse Mortgage Quotes

The reverse mortgage quote buttons on this site connect you with our reverse mortgage lending partner at C2 Financial. We don't currently receive compensation for these referrals. That partner does have a separate business relationship with our founder, who also runs a reverse mortgage referral business, and pays that business for referrals made outside this site.

Our calculators estimate reverse mortgage costs with the same approach we use for home equity investments, and rank every option by estimated cost alone.

What It May Affect

Compensation may influence where and how we place links and buttons on a page, for example including a button to a provider's own site next to our review of it. It doesn't change what the page says about that provider.

What We Don’t Cover

We track five home equity investment providers: Point, Hometap, Unison, Unlock, and Splitero. Other companies offer similar products, and other kinds of financing (such as HELOCs, home equity loans, and reverse mortgages) may suit you better. Our guides compare some of these alternatives, but we don't list every option available.
